In the age of Gwendolen Fairfax and Edith Wharton's House of Mirth, people traveled with entire wardrobes. Now, we travel with carry-ons — and in the increasingly nomadic lifestyle of the college student, nothing says more than what you take along the way.

While back home in New York earlier this fall at a Thanksgiving brunch (incidentally at our own Yale/Dartmouth Club), I was pleasantly surprised to be seated next to Alexa Meyer—former head designer at Zac Posen where I fondly remember working during summer 2008. I immediately recognized Alexa as the flushed and airy presence that used to come through Zac’s Tribeca studio—bringing a sweet, unpretentious positivity and a fierce sense of fabric with her that always made me look up.

The first exhibition of his work in the United States begins on March 16th, 2011 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, featuring over 80 different works. Pieces range from his original sketches to his famous sculpture-dresses. Along with nature, his work is highly praised for its architectural style, such as in his "Arancia" (orange) because of his use of cuts, line, fold, and construction. The exhibit includes his piece based on classical Doric architectural columns, his "Colonna" silhouette.

The unique combination of horror and artistry are what prevent David Lynch's television series "Twin Peaks" from ever losing its inspiring and dynamic style. It forged its own genre, captivating and terrifying audiences twenty years ago. And it's still thriving in all forms of art as it celebrates its anniversary. View some commemorative works after the jump.

Strikingly sharp, Saam Farahmand's "Islands" by The xx takes a couple of views to expose its subtleties. While the London trio sings apathetically on a couch (to be expected), repeated choreography can be likened to the repetitions of relationships and their demises. Slight changes in action throw the momentum off, eventually causing derailment.

The ordered binaries in this video, black and white, action and stillness, men and women, highlights the non-duality in the evolving choreography, androgeny of The xx and ultimately unique forms that relationships take on.

While I find the use of the "x" in the decor slightly contrived, I don't mind it because the song is even more hauntingly beautiful combined with the chic costumes and confusingly energetic choreography.

	Enjoy:

Kanye's killer new album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," rings through my head everywhere I walk, the haunting piano resonating with every step. The epic video encompasses the eery, echoing and empty beauty that more successfully connotes the difficulties of identity, love and art than, say "Black Swan", which I saw at Telluride Film Festival. Abrasive, humorous and elegant, Kanye is back.

The plumaged girlfriend is perfection, along with the black tutus, white dinner jackets and all-around modern design. Well done.
