Brow Wars

|

Jul 28, 2009 10:01 PM

If Louis Gates-gate has taught me anything, it's that in post-racial America, it's no longer about who yells loudest. It's about who can furrow their brow the hardest. Obama's furrow has been famous since he got real during his bailout press conference. That cool, arrogant stare that suggests, "I know I'm right, so why do I have to listen to these fuckers," and is so disarmingly balanced by that goofy, puffed out lower lip. Obama understands what we've known all along: politicians are long-winded idiots.

Obama won an election and got the biggest bailout in history based on his ability to look smarter than the competition, without coming off as arrogant. So who is this Sgt. James Crowley, and how can he possibly think he can go toe-to-toe with the man who used metaphors just complicated enough to make America feel smarter?? You can just see how hard he's trying. Like Obama, Crowley attempts to combine two looks: the solid, common sense look and the puppy face. Although both elements are there (especially the puppy face - I haven't seen a girl look that cute), they don't blend. It's like he's trying to say, "Look at me, I'm so weak and helpless, because I'm just trying to do the right thing." i.e. the new Repulican party platform.

Republicans, please remember that Bush won the second time because the American people figured that even if he was wrong, at least he was going to do something. Right now, after Palin's resignation, it looks like the only thing the Republican party can get done is establish a time-portal to the 1950s on top of Mitt Romney's head. Maybe Obama really is the new Ronald Reagan?
